What is Matting Anyway?

Matting is the white space that rests right on top of your art in a frame. Because it increases the size, the overall size of the piece will take up more real estate on your wall which will call more attention to the artwork.
Visually, white space created by the mat helps bring a sense of pause which allows
the artwork to become the focal point.

Is it necessary?
Art has no rules! Even when it comes to matting. It is absolutely your choice whether or not you want it! It looks good with AND without. I prefer a mix of both because I believe in balance. But ultimately, it’s up to you and what you want your home to feel like! So I say, listen to your heart!

Pro Tip:
Use acid-free tape to adhere your art to the mat. This ensures longevity.
I recommend using these two:
Acid free tape (for framing with a mat)
Double-sided acid free tape (for framing without a mat)
Also, please use a frame that you adore, and one that works with your home. You just invested in something beautiful and valuable, don't skimp on a frame that doesn't make you smile.
